Growing up and training in Middle Tennessee, Tyler Smith found dance to be the strongest discipline in her life, and that passionate appetite continues today.
She danced competitively throughout her training, which included ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip-hop, clogging, ballroom, Latin, swing, theatre arts, and the modern styles of Cunningham and Limon.
She holds her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine and Performing Arts with an emphasis in Dance Education, Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade from The University of Tennessee at Martin.
Upon graduation, Tyler began teaching and choreographing for musicals, workshops, camps, and dance studios throughout Middle and West Tennessee.
In addition to teaching since 2004, Tyler performed and traveled with the America’s Best Dance Crew, “Southern Movement Dance Crew”. She also competed professionally in the ballroom dance circuit while getting certified through the National Dance Council of America.
Currently, Tyler shares her love of dance with a new group of students at Lebanon High School in Lebanon, TN where she is the Dance Instructor for the Fine Arts elective, as well as the Dance Team coach. Some of her high school students are the same students she taught 10 years ago in private studios. It is such a joy to see them continuing to train and progress. She’s thrilled to be in a school where Dance Education can be promoted for every student who may otherwise not get to experience the art and gift that dance brings.
She has been with Hermitage Dance Academy since 2009 teaching everything from, ballet, tap, tumbling, hip hop, jazz, modern, and turns and leaps. Teaching dance is quite frankly the best job in the world, and HDA helps provide that love to each student who walks through the doors.
